Digital Astronaut
Collaborating with Digital Astronaut - August 2022
I am the lead animator for Digital Astronaut, a popular Youtube and Instagram channel that provides edutainment-style videos about space. Since 2022, I have regularly animated content for the channel. This has included modeling spacecraft, animating natural phenomena, and character animation. I also created the waving astronaut in the intro of each episode.

This documentary is the biggest I’ve worked on with the channel. My role was to demonstrate the path and instrumentation of the New Horizons spacecraft. The model is from Nasa’s website, but I added in missing instruments and cleaned up the model in order to texture it. All of the animations including the probe were done by me. The solar system animations were also done by me.
My role in this project was to model NASA’s Space Launch System and to demonstrate the different rocket stages and their functions.
The animation I do for Digital Astronaut is unique in that it has to demonstrate complex physics in video form, such as this animation of the planet Mercury.
For this episode, I modeled 3D objects onto drone footage to help convey scale.
